Christian Iddon and Ian Hutchinson both stood on the podium for Tyco BMW at Donington Park during round ten of the British Superbike Championship and supporting classes.
Iddon took third place in the second Superbike race; and Hutchinson third place in the re-started National 1000cc Superstock class on his S1000RR Tyco BMW. Iddon was eighth in BSB race one.
Michael Laverty struggled to find a suitable set-up this weekend to challenge at the front and finished his day with 10th and 13th placed rides in the Superbike class. Josh Elliott crashed out of the Superstock race in the closing stages whilst holding fourth place.
Christian Iddon said afterwards: โWe had a little blip in the middle part of the season but itโs nice to finally get back on the podium today and reward the Tyco BMW team for all their hard work. I made a small mistake in race one and I was determined not to do the same in the second race, so yeah Iโm delighted with the podium. We must now build on this in the remaining four races this season and show everyone what we are capable of.โ
And Ian Hutchinson said: โHad it not been for the red flag in the first part of the race today the result might have been a bit different. In the re-start I had a big out of the seat moment and that allowed the two boys at the front to get away, so third was the best we could hope for. Itโs another podium and a strong weekend on the Tyco BMW and although the championship is now over, I will be looking to go out with a win at Brands Hatch in the final round.โ
Michael Laverty said: โThere isnโt much I can say about today. I lacked some pace in race one and finished tenth. I canโt explain what happened in race two, only that Iโve never had a tyre go away so badly and I limped home in 13th. It was a disappointing day on track that I really believed would be strong for me.โ
Josh Elliott said: โIโm gutted to have crashed out in todayโs race. I was lining my team-mate up for a pass on the last lap but just hit a bump in the middle of Goddardโs, which was enough to make me tuck the front and go down. The bike didnโt feel great in the race and I was having some big slides, so a third probably was all we could get today but it wasnโt to be. Iโd like to congratulate Taylor Mackenzie on securing the championship this weekend. He was very fast all year and made it look easy at times. Many thanks to my team for their efforts this weekend. We will try our best to finish the season with a strong result at Brands Hatch.โ
And Philip Neill โ Team Manager: โIt feels great to be back on the podium again in the Superbike class. The Tyco BMW S1000RR is a great package and both riders are capable of running at the front, so it was pleasing to see Christian challenging in both races today. Ian did all he could today in Superstock, but a couple of early mistake after the re-start left him too much to do in the shortened 10-lap race, although he had a great charge through to a podium position. Congratulations to Taylor, the Mackenzie Family and to the Buildbase BMW team on winning the championship. Our agreement with Ian Hutchinson was primarily based around road racing this year, so we are naturally delighted to see him challenge for the National Superstock title especially after missing one round prior to the TT. The penultimate round of the 2016 British Superbike Championship is at Assen in the Netherlands on October 1 and 2. There is no Superstock race at Assen. The final round will be held at Brands Hatch on October 16.
