Hutchinson goes Dutch

by Mark Rowe

The 14-time Isle of Man TT winner Ian Hutchinson has been rewarded with a British Superbike opportunity for the penultimate round of the 2017 BSB series at Assen in the Netherlands with Tyco BMW.

The Bingley rider will join Tyco BMW British Superbike regularโ€™s Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon on the Dutch grid for Sundayโ€™s races โ€“ his first in the British Superbike Championship since 2014.

In second in the championship standings, Hutchinson has recorded two wins from his eight podiums in this yearโ€™s Pirelli National 1000cc Superstock series, but with no โ€™stock class at Assen, he fully welcomes the chance to jump back on a Superbike in BSB โ€“ this time with Tyco BMW.

Hutchinson, pictured, said: โ€œIโ€™m very grateful to my Tyco BMW team for giving me the opportunity to ride in the British Superbike class this weekend at Assen. Itโ€™s been a great season for me this year with Tyco BMW and although Iโ€™ve never been to the Assen circuit, I hope to be able to do both myself, and the team justice on the S1000RR Superbike in both races.โ€

And Team Manager Philip Neill said: โ€œHutchy has had a great year on Tyco BMW machinery both in British championship and also on the roads, so he fully deserves his chance to go out and ride a Superbike this weekend at Assen. Thereโ€™s absolutely no pressure on him. We want him to go out and enjoy the experience, but knowing Hutchy he will be looking for more than just a decent result.โ€
