Having just got back from my holiday I did think about sharing with you the highlights of that and some of my holiday snaps, which is why the gossip was different last month.
I had to pre-write it. However I am sure you donโt want to be bored with that. I did visit Una Riley our US correspondent while I was out there in the States and we actually did some work, the picture shows us working really hard. Well, it was a big hill to climb – but seriously, we had to sift through the massive number of nominations for the Women in Security (WiS) awards. We will be presenting these at Consec on Thursday evening, October 2 at their dinner. May I say congratulations if you were nominated, and you know if you were by now as I have e-mailed everyone that has been, and also thanks to all those people the filled out the forms and nominated people. Likewise thanks to all those judges that worked their way through the lists.
Talking of women in security, Julie Kenny, MD and owner of Pyronix as you will all know, has won another award, the Women of the Year award at the Private Business Awards 2014, at the Guildhall in London. Wow Julie, your mantlepiece must be very strong to hold all those awards! Congratulations.
Letโs talk gossip that I know you want to hear about. OK, I am being told that Andy Pigram, technical director at distributor Norbain, is going to AMG Systems. Wow indeed I hear you say, more about that once I know more. But Andy did say to me โwell itโs just up the roadโ, so we have to assume he lives nearby . Likewise Robin Gill is joining Bi3, and if you donโt know who they are, itโs Glen Higsonโs company, he founded it and is running the show for them as the MD. And yes, he is ex-Dowshu. His team comprises of Ed Kobut, Chris Eccles, Neil Mochan, Daniel Arrowsmith (I think I might know his dad), Carl Harding, Adam Kohut and Liz Hughes. They have various products in their range from video analytics and access control to facial recognition.
IDIS have appointed John Psyllos as Product Manager reporting to Brian Song, Managing Director, based out of the Korean manufacturerโs European headquarters in Brentford, west London.
Gary Frost has joined Assa Abloy as the new channel manager for system integrators. You will know of course that Gary was with Risco and before that Vicon, and in fact he has been knocking around the industry since 1998 where he started with Intervision. Ah yes, remember them? Talking about Vicon, (see what I did there?!) Chris Wall has retired and therefore Mark Provinsal has taken over as the new MD.
It seems Ashley Cardno has been promoted at 360 Vision and is now the National Key Account manager; well done Ash. And Gavin Archery is the new Architects & Engineers (A&E) Program Manager at Milestone Systems, based out of the IP video management software companyโs London office.
Now I do get stick because I donโt mention many of you ladies. I can point you over the page, or back rather to page 10, to Sandra Eastlake who has become a BDM for ADP.
Events
I hope to see you this month at our event in the Park Inn Hotel near Heathrow, we will be holding our usual networking dinner on the night of Monday, October 27, and the exhibition and conference is on the 28th. We have some 60 exhibitors lined up for you – you can see the list on page 47 – and a great line up of speakers. Itโs easy to get to just along the Bath Road, so come and join me as my guest. And talking of our events, I can give you a first preview of Security TWENTY 15, yes because you are enjoying them so much we will run four events next year as requested. The plan is to return to Nottingham on February 3, Bristol on April 15, Newcastle on July 9 and back to to Heathrow on October 28, so weโre spread out across the year and around the country. Likewise the nights before we will also hold the networking dinner where we get the opportunity to raise some money for charity. We have raised over ยฃ12,000 in the last 12 months for various local charities with an industry connection, so thank you all for your support and helping to make that possible.
Finally talking of charity eight staff from product distributor Mayflex took part in a 23 mile trek along Hadrianโs Wall to raise money for the Alzheimerโs Society. Pictured are team members Lyn Gale, Tracey Calcutt and Anita Mistry at the finish line.
