A members’ event by the security and defence think-tank, marking the launch of the report of the Independent Commission on UK Counterterrorism Law, Policy and Practice. Over three years, the Independent Commission gathered evidence from civil society organisations, community groups, government ministers, judges, lawyers, policymakers, politicians, practitioners, survivors of terrorist acts and people directly impacted by counterterrorism. A panel will discuss; does the UK’s Counterterrorism Strategy Keep Us Safe from Changing Threats? The panel: Dominic Grieve PC KC, Commissioner, Independent Commission on UK Counter-Terrorism Law, Policy and Practice, former Attorney General of England and Wales and Chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament. Sir Declan Morgan PC KC, Chair, Independent Commission on UK Counter-Terrorism Law, Policy and Practice, Supplementary Panel Member of the UK Supreme Court and former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland. Professor Hilary Pilkington, Commissioner, Independent Commission on UK Counter-Terrorism Law, Policy and Practice, Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester and Co-ordinator of the H2020 project Dialogue about Radicalisation and Equality.

The event will be moderated by Lord Evans of Weardale KCB DL, RUSI Distinguished Fellow and former Director General of the British Security Service (MI5); and president of the Security Institute.
