Commissioning Engineer

An established and forward-thinking building services organisation is seeking a skilled Commissioning Engineer to join their Security Systems team. This is a field-based role with national travel, focused on delivering installation, commissioning, and maintenance of various fire alarm systems in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out installation, commissioning, and handover of a variety of fire detection systems, including addressable and non-addressable systems, air sampling, beam detection, and wireless technologies.
- Work within defined project deadlines, communicating any delays or risks proactively.
- Commission systems according to specifications and drawings, including cause and effect programming and client handovers.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements and company policies.
- Complete relevant e-documentation (via tablet) and ensure all work meets FIA and BAFE standards.
- Provide technical support across departments and assist in the training and mentoring of junior engineers.
- Supervise third-party contractors on-site as needed (SSSTS required).
- Actively uphold best practices in fire and security, with an emphasis on protecting customer data and sensitive information.
- Support the integration of fire systems with other building services where applicable.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the fire alarm industry.
- FIA qualifications in Advanced and Commissioning (BS5839).
- Strong understanding of BS5839 (all parts) is essential.
- Proven ability to program cause and effects using a laptop across multiple system manufacturers.
- SSSTS certification (or willingness to obtain).
- ECS/CSCS card, IPAF, and Asbestos Awareness certification required.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Strong time management and the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel nationwide, including overnight stays during larger commissioning projects.
- Must be flexible with working hours and able to travel at short notice.
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- Willingness to be on-call during system soak tests and warranty periods.
