The Security Commonwealth’s new elected chair is Claire Humble MSc MIntLSy CPOI. The umbrella body of some 40 security industry bodies reports that she received the unanimous support of the Board and the overwhelming support of the membership. The Board would like to thank the other candidates for the position. Former Chair Joe Connell MBE has stepped down from the board.
Claire, pictured, started her career in policing in the UK (Cleveland) and New Zealand, before moving into security management in the UK education sector at Middlesbrough-based Teesside University. She founded Nuology a security training company, seeking to transform and modernise the way security education is delivered: she is the CEO. She represents the terrorism information sharing group TINYg on the SyCom committee and besides, is on the Advisory Board of IFPO UK and the Women’s Security Society.
She said: “As the time has come for Jayne King to step down after her deeply successful period as chair of SyCom, her continued contribution to both SyCom and the wider sector is something to be celebrated and congratulated. And it is with a big dose of excitement and a little trepidation that I now find myself stepping into this huge role. I am delighted to be appointed as the new Chair of SyCom. I come to this role as a relative unknown to the wider security sector but what you will discover as you get to know me is my passion, commitment and determination to make a difference.
“As well as my 30-plus years experience within this sector my strength lies in my ability to bring people together, lead difficult conversations and champion change. Indeed, my passion as many know lies in the diversification, modernisation and professionalisation of the industry. My overarching vision on SyCom is to champion the sector to help members build a vibrant, safe and empowering environment with strong governance where security professionals are supported, encouraged and have the opportunity to build their skills through a clear career pathway. This vision helps bring about a collaboration for reshaping of the security sector shaking off past perceptions of the industry and enabling adaptability and diversification to ensure the security industry is more agile in its working practices and more holistic and open in its approach, thinking and behaviour.”
The other board members are Darren Carter; Dave Cooke (secretary); Graham Bassett; Guy Mathias; Jayne King; Mike Hurst; Nicholas Reed and Oliver Curran.
