LookC have launched what they describe as an integrated access control and CCTV system which uses ethernet network technology, to link the door controllers with the tag database stored in the system.
Every time a tag holder uses his tag this creates an entry in the CCTV system’s database; and the Viditag software extensions in the system allow managers to have a visual audit log of tag use. The manufacturers report that as with all its systems the Viditag software can be used locally on the server or remotely through an encrypted web page. The Viditag door controllers have features including 999 tags per door, seven time profiles, encrypted ethernet data, autonomous behaviour during network outage and a tag white list which is stored in flash memory and therefore resilient to power failures, the makers report.
The makers say the product is aimed at installations where biometric systems are resisted by employees or they are found to be too unreliable in harsh environments. Glasgow Airport have already installed the system to protect buildings against unauthorised public access and to protect the apron ‘air-side’ from the airport buildings. The system provides an visual audit of tag users, which is now a requirement, and protects staff and aeroplanes on the apron, according to the Newcastle-based manufacturers. A suite of time and attendance software is planned for release in November 2005, also Windows based application software will be available shortly so that the Viditag door controllers can be used in a stand-alone fashion.
