What will become of the approved contractor scheme (ACS) as the Security Industry Authority moves to a ‘new regime’?
That was aired at a meeting of SIA staff with guarding company and other industry reps, at the ACS ‘Strategy and Standards Group’, in May.
The options outlined were –
1. UK quality infrastructure (in other words, British Standards).
2. Use a ‘passport model’ (new regulator or another agent would accredit schemes).
3. Scheme is taken over by an existing suitable body after a tender process.
4. Separate the ACS business unit from the SIA (though this was described at the meeting as risky as a scheme should be free from commercial influence and independent).
5. The scheme ends when business licensing is introduced.
