Sheffield-based Rocksure Systems Ltd is launching Peoplesafe – a new personal safety alert system for location tracking of staff such as lone workers, shop workers, nurses and field based workers, and VIP executives.
The product has Alert – Listen – Locate and Respond functions. Doubling up as an ID card holder, Peoplesafe can be worn visibly or discreetly to allow the user reach of its emergency button on the reverse of the card holder. When depressed for two seconds the button raises an alarm. The alarm signal is transmitted via a mobile phone network to an alarm receiving centre (ARC), operating 24/7.
The Peoplesafe system has a built-in microphone which allows the ARC to listen to an incident, and also digitally records the conversation or sounds made immediately following an alert. This assists the ARC in determining the nature or severity of the alert, to take the appropriate action to assist the user. In addition, the digital sound recordings made can be used at a later date as evidence of an attack. This is particularly useful in situations of verbal abuse, the firm says, for example towards independent retailers.
The mobile phone network enables the ARC to determine the coordinates and location of the user. Peoplesafe allows locating of users in large field sites, for long haul drivers or even individuals taken in kidnap or hostage situations. The Peoplesafe is completely mobile, the firm adds. Field-based workers such as estate agents can leave a short message on the device, giving their whereabouts and the expected duration of the meeting. If a user fails to re establish contact by an agreed time, the alarm will be raised with the company to try and establish contact with their colleague and take further action thereafter. There are several methods to respond to an alarm alert and the ARC will have a plan of action to follow. For example, this could be to contact police, to call the organisation’s in-house security department or a colleague, to contact a family member or to follow some other plan.
