Alloa Door Report

by Msecadm4921

A 27-year-old man has been reported for working as an unlicensed door steward following a police operation earlier this month.

The man was detected during visits to licensed premises in Alloa by police. Officials from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) supported officers.

Leading the operation Constable Craig Rankine said: "This is the first such case to be reported in the force’s area.”

Since November last year it is a legal requirement that door stewards are licensed by the SIA which means they have been through training and have obtained the governing body’s qualification.

“This means the public should be reassured that those staffing the doors have been vetted and have been trained in how to diffuse confrontational situations. This means that disorder doesn’t spread throughout the town.

"Although only one unlicensed steward was detected, word quickly spread throughout the town that officers were carrying out checks.

"As a result the intelligence we received suggested that a small number of door stewards were removed prior to police attending and replaced with a fully licensed member of staff.

"This ensured all premises were complying with the legislation in relation to door stewarding with the obvious benefits to public safety.

“We will be monitoring the situation to ensure everyone can enjoy their nights out in the run up to Christmas in a safe manner.”
