RemGuard Visual Management’s event-driven remotely monitored CCTV solution is helping West Midlands-based Oldbury Aluminium Alloys to combat out of hours attacks on its Halesowen premises.
The latest incident in which the system was activated led to the arrest and prosecution of two suspects, the company reports.
At the Oldbury firm, where aluminium is refined from scrap metal into ‘added value’ ingots, cameras and detectors are placed strategically around the site linked by transmission equipment to a RVRC (Remote Video Response Centre) operated by RemGuard Visual Management.

Jonathan Gadsby, Oldbury Aluminium Alloys’ Joint Managing Director, said: "An incident last weekend underlined the value of remotely monitored CCTV for our business, when a detector was activated operators at RemGuard’s RVRC realised that one of the cameras on site had been knocked out of position. With the help of the site plan stored on their system and other cameras they were able to track down an intruder and alert the police who were able to quickly come to our premises as the incident had been confirmed visually. When the police arrived not only were they able to arrest that individual but also another suspect nearby.
"We are extremely pleased with this positive result and the way it was handled by RemGuard’s staff, particularly the support and assistance we have had from Customer Services Manager Kerry Jones, ensuring that the police recognised the benefits of this type of system and were in a position to offer us a priority response. Given the nature of our business, processing valuable metal, it is not surprising that we are an attractive target so effective security is of paramount importance."
Jonathan added: "Sadly in the local area there is a high theft rate for scrap metal. Without measures such as RemGuard’s to deter them, criminals are more than willing to attempt to climb over a fence onto site and grab specific items – often stealing to order."
