A dedicated operation to crack down on criminals who target Alton Towers launched for the summer.
Officers from the Moorlands East Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU), together with the Force’s Tactical Support Team, North Staffordshire Road Policing Team and the division’s Proactive Unit, will all be involved, working closely with the resort’s highly experienced security team.
The operation will be mounted at various times of the day during the park’s opening hours, and will continue throughout the summer months.
Both uniformed and plainclothes officers will be utilised inside and outside of the resort.
Sergeant Nick Morris, from the Moorlands East NPU, is leading the operation.
"Alton Towers is an extremely well known tourist attraction and it attracts visitors from all over the country," said Sgt Morris.
"The park has thousands of visitors each day and now the summer is here the number of visitors increases.
"As a visitor, the chances of becoming a victim of a crime at Alton Towers is statistically very low, however we are determined to reduce these chances even further by actively targeting the minority of individuals who go to Alton Towers to commit crime.
"Not only does this behaviour affect the resort, it reflects poorly on the area in general.
"Our message is clear, if you intend to come to Alton Towers to commit crime, do not bother as the police will be waiting and ready to deal with you."
Alton Towers’ Head of Security, Lorraine Warrener, said: "Considering that on a busy day we can have as many people here as live in a small town, we have very little crime, and my team work tirelessly to identify offenders, track them down and detain them until the police can get here.
"This operation will mean that there is no gap between the original identification or offence and the police making an arrest."
