Apprentice To MD

by Msecadm4921

Security and fire systems installer Amax Security has promoted its one-time apprentice William McMillan to MD.

It’s been a learning curve for Will, who joined Amax one year after it was formed in 1994 by Prad Mehta – who’s also stepped up, becoming chairman of the company.

Amax has NACOSS Gold approval from the National Security Inspectorate. The compan offers CCTV, intruder alarms, door entry systems, plus automatic gates and barrier equipment.

"Will was the first to take advantage of our in-house apprenticeship training scheme at the age of 18," says Prad. "He later took over as installation manager, before handling administration and sales for five years. His rise to the top shows that you can succeed with talent, application and drive."

Meanwhile, Will has brought in George Melpous to head Amax’s fire risk assessment, detection and extinguishing services, complementing the firm’s security systems. "This is a significant step for Amax, enabling us to offer a full span of skills to customers," comments Will. "With our 10-strong team of engineers, we’re small enough to care but big enough as a company to cope with our clients’ challenges."

In-house training is a strong element of Amax Security’s career progression – other company apprentices include Shane Flynn, who’s now Amax Security’s branch manager, as well as Gareth Foskett, Amax’s Technical Support coordinator, and Sales Director Patrick Tomlinson.
