ASIS In Vienna

by Msecadm4921

The types of corporate fraudsters are among the topics for the tenth European Security Conference and Exhibition. It runs from April 3 to 6, 2011 in Vienna.

That talk is by Caroline Waddicor of fraud prevention and detection consultancy Hibis. She will describe types of fraudsters including the emotionally motivated who have the ability to rationalise and manipulate their position to commit fraud and the character to corrupt normally honest junior employees to become complicit. Other subjects include how to recognise the red flag warning signs to identify a "snake in a suit" and the business case cost versus benefit argument for the implementation of a robust and sustainable fraud management strategy, including a case study of the implementation of a fraud management strategy in a central bank in the Middle East.

Other UK speakers include former Cambridgeshire Police man Steve Pearl, now an adviser to the board of Agenda Resource Management; Hugh McLeod of Stirling Assynt International Group; Philip Wood of Buckinghamshire New University; Stewart Kidd; Jim Castle; Chris Brogan; Alexandros Paraskevas, a senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes University doing research and consultancy on risk management; David Montague, Sales Director, Security and Surveillance for Europe/Africa and Israel at thermal camera manufacturer FLIR Systems; and Martin Smith, the founder of the Security Awareness Special Interest Group (www.thesasig.com). He stresses training and awareness of security among non-security staff; many security incidents are caused not by breaches in security but by breaches of trust, he points out. We place enormous trust in the members of our extended enterprises (our employees, customers, suppliers, contractors and other third parties). We expect them to care properly for the corporate assets to which we grant them access. It is vital that we equip them in all respects to ensure that they fulfil their security responsibilities.
