ATM Product

Dedicated Micros unveiled its DV-IP ATM, a four camera network based recorder targeted at the financial sector, at IIPSEC 2005.

The new DV-IP ATM is part of DM’s family of network video servers, the company reports, and has been designed to assist the banks, by recording camera images and transaction data, to deal with a growing problem of fraudulent card use at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)

Pauline Norstrom, DM Marketing Manager, says there is a pressing need for solutions like DV-IP ATM. She says: "Recent figures from the Association of Payment Clearing Services serve to underline the importance of having the right systems in place, cash machine fraud in the UK rose by 85per cent to £61 million in 2004, making it the fastest growing form of card fraud. The reality is that criminals, often in organised gangs, are applying various methods to obtain card details, in particular card skimming where a card reading device is secretly fitted to an ATM."

The compact DV-IP ATM – slightly bigger than a telephone directory – fits within the confined conditions of an ATM and can be integrated into a bank’s security system through new or existing IP enabled computer networks, the makers say. Once operational the unit is able to process transaction data and record this with video footage when attached to cameras within the cabinet, combined with views from external cameras. A post event text search engine allows bank security staff to associate transaction data with the relevant CCTV images to home in on suspicious activity.

Other features of the DV-IP ATM include: local recording of evidential quality JPEG format which means that even if there is network failure recording is not interrupted. Whilst simultaneously, data streaming in MPEG-4 format facilitates efficient data transmission over low bandwidth connections. Spot monitor support offers a visual deterrent and helps assure customers and bank employees that there is a safe and secure cash withdrawal facility.
