Audio For CCTV

by Msecadm4921

Newcastle upon Tyne based Blaydon Communications Ltd reports a solution to a problem that has vexed the CCTV security segment for many years, that of providing audio to accompany CCTV images.

Blaydon Communications has an agreement with CIE Group to become northern England and Scotland channel partner to supply the ClockAudio microphone system. The ClockAudio mic is an omni-directional microphone with a pickup range of 15m and a built in line pre-amp to pick up crisp sound over a wide area and input directly to a DVD recorder. The ClockAudio is easily mounted on wall, ceiling or CCTV installation and can be installed by any competent electrical fitter.

Blaydon Communications managing director Paul Dougherty says: “In the past the ability of security personnel to interact with a suspect seen on CCTV has been hampered by low quality audio input, since microphones typically require an external amplifier to generate an adequate quality of recording. ClockAudio microphones can overcome this problem. It is now possible to install ‘talking CCTV’, that is, a CCTV camera where remote security personnel can talk to anyone on-site using a speaker, and hear their response through this high definition microphone. This will cut down on false alarms resulting in local guard or police callout, and provide a real deterrent to unauthorised persons and criminals. We see tremendous potential for the ClockAudio microphone in situations where high quality sound recording is vital to the security mission.”

ClockAudio microphones can be linked to the TOA NX100 network audio device which allows a controller located anywhere to broadcast to one or many locations, and to select incoming audio feed from the ClockAudio microphone.

For indoor locations where a discreet microphone is required, the Clock Audio SEC 09 polar microphone is hidden in what looks like a regular fire alarm system. If for example racial or other abuse, or threats have been issued, the CCTV with provide high definition images of the perpetrators, but without audio it is impossible to bring a prosecution or present evidence for further action. The Clock Audio SEC 09 provides a record of exactly what has been said, directly to security personnel and the DVD recorder.
