Barricade Breakthrough

by Msecadm4921

Delta Scientific, the US manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems, reports that it has sold more than 1,000 DSC501 counter-terrorist barriers since it first began shipping the barricade in 2001.

The DSC501 was designed for the US Navy and has also been selected for use at US embassies.

What they say

โ€œWe sold the first DSC501 on February 28, 2001, and installed it at Washington Navy Yard," reports Delta Scientific Senior Vice President David Dickinson.  "Our most recent installation is at a U.S. Air Force base in the Southwestern United States.  The DSC501 will ultimately be used at every United States Air Force base in the world."

About the product

Delta says that the DSC501 barricade stops and destroys a 15,000 lb (66.7 kN) vehicle traveling 50 mph (80 kph).  Set in a foundation 18 inches (46 cm) deep, the DSC501 is able to survive and operate after a 1.2 million foot pound impact, it is claimed.  Upon extracting the truck after its crash test, the barricade was fully functional and performed 27,000 cycles with no wear, the firm adds. The DSC501 is one of 30 Delta vehicle restraint barriers divided into six broad categories.

Where

Delta has supplied counter-terrorist barricade systems to 160 US embassies and consulates in 130-plus countries plus those of the United Kingdom and other nations.  In the United States alone, Delta has secured over 110 Federal buildings, including courthouses and FBI locations.  Over 85 per cent of all U.S. nuclear power plants are protected by Delta vehicle barricade systems. Delta Scientific systems also protect the US Capitol and other Washington landmark buildings, high-rises throughout the world, Broadway pedestrians in New York City, corporate facilities, the Singapore parliament, power and water infrastructure locales, European castles and the private homes of celebrities in Beverly Hills and other upscale communities.
