In August, Kent Police set up a pop up safety shop at Bluewater, as part of Kent Police’s ‘Stay Safe This Summer’ campaign.
The Safety Shop was officially opened on Monday, August 1 by the High Sheriff of Kent, Georgie Warner. The Safety shop at Bluewater was beside Mothercare, opposite NEXT in the Lower Thames Walk and was open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
The Bluewater neighbourhood officers, crime reduction officers and PCSOs were joined by other organisations on various days throughout August including Kent Fire & Rescue Service, the RNLI, Kent Search & Rescue, Road Safety Partnership and many more.
Kent Police’s ‘Stay Safe this Summer’ campaign started on 4 July and runs until 2 September. It focuses on seasonal crime such as burglary, theft, road safety and the night-time economy (pubs, clubs, etc).
Detective Inspector Mel Smith from the North Kent Crime Reduction Unit said: "I’m grateful to Bluewater for giving us the chance to use a great location to set up shop for a month.
"There is plenty going on to attract guests and we look forward to meeting as many people as possible. It’s an excellent opportunity for us to get crime reduction and safety messages across to hundreds of people, and if that means people are safer and crime is prevented, then it’s very worthwhile."
Andrew Parkinson, General Manager of Bluewater said: "Safety is of the utmost importance for Bluewater and we are very pleased to work closely with Kent Police for this particular campaign. Bluewater already has a very strong relationship with Kent Police and this pop up store highlights our ongoing support for their efforts in the local community.”
