Businesses throughout the UK continue to be troubled by bogus data protection notification agencies, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) admits.
The ICO reports that it is the only statutory authority for administering and maintaining the public register of Data Controllers.
Correspondence that is really from that ICO always bears the address: Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire.
There is no connection between the ICO and a long list of agencies onthe ICO website. The ICO adds that it continues to cooperate with other relevant authorities in the investigation of these agencies. The annual statutory notification fee is £35, on which no VAT is payable. If anyone is dubious about the validity of any correspondence that has been received (offering to register an organisation for data protection purposes, at a fee of more than £35) or requires further information then ring the ICO helpline on 01625 545740.
