APT Security Systems, the UK traffic management and vehicle access control company, introduces a new range of rigid bollards designed to bend on impact, thereby minimising damage to the vehicle, bollard and foundation.
Described as providing ‘boundary security with passive safety’, the new APT Flex range is the firm says suited to lower risk scenarios, where the emphasis is on protecting more substantial barriers or curbs from significant damage. They are also ideally suited to denoting parking areas, pedestrianisation schemes and other similar zones where a perimeter needs to be clearly defined.
“The new bollards in the APT Flex range look and feel like rigid bollards but when impacted by a vehicle they will gently bend,” says Chris Rowlands, General Manager of APT Security Systems. “If the vehicle continues to force the bollard it will bend up to 90 degrees flush with the ground. Once the vehicle has been removed the bollard will return to its upright rigid structure, with no costly damage either to the bollard or its foundations.”
The Flex series comprises two static variants – Flex slim and Flex mid – offering bollards from 80mm to 180mm in diameter, and 680mm to 900mm in height. The series also includes the Flex telescopic range offering bollards with a diameter of 220mm and a height of up to 450mm. APT will shortly add a new Flex automatic rising bollard to its portfolio.
Chris believes that bollards are an essential element of street furniture, and are increasingly relied upon by private property owners and local councils alike. “When a ‘traditional’ bollard is hit, the impact is not just physical, it is also financial, even in a minor incident,” he says. “With one of our new flexible bollards, they still provide a physical barrier but do not cause disproportionate damage to either the vehicle or our product.”
The bollards, made from a unique and protected blend of materials, feature a UV resistant surface coating and are available in a variety of different styles and colours.
