BOSS On Line

by msecadm4921

The British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), the service station security watchdog, and crime reporting line Crimestoppers Trust are launching a petrol-pump nozzle advertising campaign in January 2003.

Worth an estimated œ250,000 the campaign aims to encourage customers to pass on information about any criminal activities on petrol service stations to the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111. The advertising campaign is taking place thanks to ChevronTexaco, Jet, Q8, TotalFinaElf, and Alvern Forecourt Media. New figures recently released by BOSS this year reveal a big fall in the cost of forecourt crime. BOSS estimates that service station crime, excluding credit card fraud, cost the oil industry œ19m last year compared to œ28m in 2000 and œ35m in 1998.

What they say

Kevin Eastwood, Executive Director of BOSS said: “The safety of staff and customers is the top priority for BOSS member companies. Our crime reduction campaign will encourage the public to be more vigilant when visiting their local service station and to play an active part in ensuring that they continue to be safe places. If people witness a crime taking place on petrol service stations and are afraid to go to the police, we would advise them to pass on their information anonymously via Crimestoppers.” Roy Clark, Director of Crimestoppers says: “We are pleased to be working with BOSS again this year. As Britain?s premier forecourt crime fighting organisation BOSS has continued to provide tremendous support for Crimestoppers over the past five years. We hope that this campaign will continue to help fight and reduce crime in and around petrol service stations.” Visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org
