The winners of the British Security Industry Association’s Chairman’s Awards 2008 have been announced, rewarding individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to the industry over the past year.
The Contribution to Training award went to Bob Hussey, Group Safety Advisor at Wilson James, for his approach to developing health and safety skills across the guarding company by staging a competition in which teams from across the UK compete to identify, prioritise and minimise safety hazards.
The Contribution to the Community award winner was Alan Dobie, Executive Director of the Scottish Business Crime Centre (SBCC), for his commitment to reducing business crime in Scotland. Alan’s enthusiasm for this issue has led to the significant success of the SBCC and its involvement in a number of crime prevention initiatives. The SBCCโs Retailers Against Crime in Northern Ireland (RACNI) conference in Belfast featured in the Retail Security Magazine that was free with the July issue of Professional Security Magazine.
The award for Services to Exporting went to the BSIA’s own Export Services Team โ Chris Pinder and Caroline Strickley โ for its dedication to supporting BSIA members in exporting their products overseas. Chris and Caroline have obtained amounts of funding for the industry and run events such as ‘Meet the Buyers’.
The award for Services to the Industry was given to Dermot Williams, International Sales Manager at CQR Security, for his dedication to enhancing relationships between the British security industry and overseas buyers. An active member of the BSIA’s Export Council since its formation, Dermot is known for not only supporting BSIA-organised exhibitions, but also giving advice to others who wish to develop their business overseas.
The Contribution to Standards award was won by Geoff Tate, Chief Executive of SSAIB. Geoff has been particularly prolific in the area of standards development for the intruder alarms sector as convenor of the working group that is developing the new suite of European Standards for intruder alarms. The chairman’s Awards were presented by Association Chairman, Stuart Lowden, at the BSIA’s Annual Lunch.
