Building Up Security

Travis Perkins, the distributor to the construction industry, requires 24-hour security for its 160-plus sites across the UK holding stock. Access and CCTV systems are monitored from their control centre in Northampton, which has recently upgraded its interface to Sensorium iBMS. Developed by E-Squared, the UK systems integrator, Sensorium iBMS simplifies remote site surveillance, the integrator reports. It is operated via a standard Internet Explorer web browser. The product integrates the management of security and life safety events through an interactive display solution. At Travis Perkins, each site is represented graphically as a floor plan showing the positions of cameras, passive infra-red detectors, and in some cases, door entry controls and intruder and fire systems. The graphics are coded in standard HTML, and contain ActiveX objects written by E-Squared, that link the web pages to the accompanying Sensorium server. Every security event triggers a CCTV recording, while simultaneously displaying an alarm message on screen. Alarms may be interrogated, and any door access controls opened and closed by clicking on icons. Cameras can be called up and operated from touch screens. E-Squared report they have made it possible for the client to phase in the upgrading of older CCTV equipment in remote sites, without the need to operate two display systems side by side.
