Liverpool John Moores University’s Programme Leader in Forensic Science Dr Suzzanne McColl and her team have appeared as experts in the BBC 1 series, Beat the Burglar, on Monday mornings at 9.15am.
"There are many things left behind at the scene of a crime that we can use to identify the burglar. Often they don’t even realise they had created evidence," says Dr McColl.
Dr McColl and her team demonstrate a variety of forensic techniques during the series, in which volunteers allow their homes to be broken into by experts to test how secure they are. Filmed in October 2004, the team showed how forensic scientists collect and analyse evidence such as footprints, fingerprints and cigarette ends.
