Bus Alert

by Msecadm4921

Roads around Stourbridge were closed on November 30; but on assessment of a suspicious package on a bus, West Midlands Police found it was nothing of concern.

Specialist officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended the scene of the alert, on Birmingham Street, this afternoon and confirmed that the package was not viable and all cordons could be lifted.

Officers were initially called at 11.45am after a passenger on the bus raised the alarm. The bus was evacuated and a cordon was put in place, pending the specialist advice of the EOD.

Birmingham Street was closed between Stamford Road and St Johns Road whilst emergency services attended. Evacuated residents from Birmingham Street were allowed to return home.

Acting Inspector Jenson Bloomer from Dudley Police said: "We thank the public for their patience with this matter and hope that the alert hasn’t caused too much disruption to their day.

"Thankfully the package was found to be nothing of concern and emergency services will now stand down from the area."
