Bus Attack Alarms

by Msecadm4921

Bus operator First reports that it has taken what it calls significant measures in improving staff safety by helping to crack down on assaults against driving staff.

First’s Security team are continually trying new initiatives to reduce crime and vandalism on buses, according to the bus firm. As part of overall efforts to reduce vandalism and crime, all staff have been issued with personal attack alarms. The strap of the alarm, which also has the facility to be used as a torch, can either be attached to the belt of the user or simply carried in a bag. If a member of staff feels threatened they simply pull firmly on the strap, which causes a high pitch alarm to be activated.

Alan Pert, First’s Security Manager in Glasgow said: "Our staff have the right to feel safe at work and we continue to do everything we can to ensure they are able to work in the safest environment possible. We hope by introducing the Personal Attack Alarms we are able to prevent possible driver assaults.”

Although the distribution of the alarm may not stop an attack on a member of staff, it may stop a sustained attack, or frighten off the assailant, according to the bus firm.
