C4 Upgrade

by Msecadm4921

The Horseferry Road, London headquarters of Channel 4 has had a CCTV upgrade.

As part of an upgrade of CCTV at the Horseferry Road, London headquarters of Channel 4, Building Services Manager Aamir Mumtaz was looking for a method of recording without using videotapes. Watford-based Total Security Protection (TSP) was the installer. Richard Parnell, Managing Director of TSP says: ?The previous system was piecemeal and archaic. We have modernised the CCTV system with new cameras and a digital recording system, more in tune with the modern Richard Rodgers designed building in which it operates.? TSP recommended the OCTAR 2000 digital recording system from Visimetrics. TSP, already familiar with OCTAR, suggested it because of picture quality, ease of operation and control. Two OCTAR 2000 systems have been installed, enabling C4 to record all 32 CCTV cameras simultaneously, at one frame per second, for more than 14 days? continuous recording. Switching from videotapes to tape-less digital recording has been a straightforward process and C4 have found that the new system requires far less maintenance. All recordings are encoded with the time and date and, since they are digital, they can be searched through and retrieved in seconds. Mr Mumtaz also requested the OCTAR to be connected to C4?s local area network to enable him to access OCTAR from his PC in a different part of the building to the security control room. This simple procedure involved connecting the OCTAR system to a specified IP address in the LAN and setting up the OCTAR software to run on Mr Mumtaz?s computer.
