Door staff were the first sector to be Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensed.
Now comes enforcement. Police report that they are for instance continuing to carry out checks at pubs and clubs in Cambridgeshire.
Acting Inspector Rebecca Bretherton said: "We are working with the SIA to ensure that door supervisors at pubs and clubs are properly licensed. The new law helps people to enjoy a good night out safely."
Adrian Winter, SIA Head of Investigation for Eastern region, said: โThe SIA door supervisor licence demonstrates that the holder has undergone stringent identity and criminality checks and reached set levels of training and professional standards. Cambridgeshire benefits from a varied and vibrant night-time economy and the SIA door supervisor licence ensures that only professional, trained and qualified door staff work at pubs and clubs across the county. The public should expect and demand professional, modern-day door supervisors at licensed premises. Door supervisors, managers and premises licence holders remain strictly liable for any failure to comply with the law.โ
