Cameras Cover BullRing

The new BullRing retail development in central Birmingham has CCTV to monitor public walkways. JHS Integrated Systems of Birmingham, a member of the Sony Approved Installer Facility (SAIF) for Sony CCTV products in the UK, installed the CCTV system. The Birmingham Alliance specified seven Sony SSC-DC58AP colour cameras linked by a radio transmission system and BT RS1000 fibre optic transmission to a police CCTV control room at Steelhouse Lane Police Station. Images are displayed on two Sony Trinitron SSM-20N5E main monitors and a Trinitron SSM-14N5E incident monitor. While the six street based cameras were standard products, the seventh, mounted 40 metres up on the roof of the Rotunda landmark, had upgraded lenses. Part of the extra cost of installing the Rotunda based camera was met by West Midlands Police, as part of the force?s Safer Streets force-wide initiative. Police, installer and end user took into account the fact that this multi million pound construction site was a phased programme to 2003; the cameras need to be relocated as the site develops. The half-inch cameras on site incorporate Exwave HAD technology, developed by the manufacturer to combine camera sensitivity with a reduction in smear levels. The cameras must also handle city centre light pollution.
