CBRN: Resilience and Response is the title of a June 16 workshop at the Royal United Services Institute, Whitehall, London.
The one-day workshop’s focus is on UK and international capabilities for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) resilience and response.
Aimed at senior policy makers, academics and responders, the workshop will look at the CBRN threat and explore issues in CBRN resilience. Sessions will look at capabilities for detection, incident management, decontamination and recovery, and will consider pertinent issues for planning.
Invited UK participants include the Civil Contingencies Secretariat, Home Office, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Police, Fire and Rescue Services and the Ambulance Service. Invited international agencies include the FBI, Interpol and the European CBRNE Centre, Sweden.
Topics covered include:
*Identification and recognition of the risk: What determines the placement of CBRN threats on the National Risk Register? How does the psychological and economic impact of the CBRN threat differ from other types of terrorism?
*CBRN response and incident management: How do the UK agencies responsible for CBRN response and incident management work together? What lessons have been indentified from past CBRN releases?
*International perspectives: The UK needs to engage with international agencies to ensure effective detection, monitoring and response and to conduct criminal investigations surrounding a CBRN release. What lessons have been identified from past experience and what do we need to consider for the future?
