Police officers in Bury are hailing the success of CCTV installed in a shopping centre after they have helped police track down a number of offenders.
Over the past four months, the control room at Mill Gate Shopping Centre has helped detain six suspects for various offences. Cameras have recently helped identify a man who has since been charged with four sexual offences against women. Other offences include serious assault.
Insp Charlotte Cadden from Bury East Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We work very closely with Mill Gate Shopping Centre management who regularly supply us with information about offenders. The CCTV cameras are instrumental in helping us with our enquiries on a number of occasions, which in turn, are helping us keep shoppers safe. “
Colin Nichol, Mill Gate Shopping Centre Manager, said: “I am a great believer in partnership working, particularly with the police, which I see as an essential part of our business. Our vigilant CCTV operators and security staff are dedicated to ensuring the shopping centre is safe and secure for members of the public and we will continue to work alongside our local officers.”
