The use and perception of public space CCTV is a hot topic, writes Derek Maltby, Managing Director of Bristol-based Global MSC, due to the Coalition government announcing that they intend to further regulate CCTV. Pictured is a previous event at Newcastle.
The keynote invited speaker is Graeme Gerrard, Cheshire Deputy Chief Constable, the ACPO lead on CCTV, co-author of the National CCTV Strategy and chair of the National CCTV Strategy Programme Board and the Olympic CCTV Project Board. Also invited: Alex Deane, a barrister and a director of Big Brother Watch, interviewed by Una Riley last issue.
Dr Peter Fussey is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Essex East London. His main research interest: CCTV surveillance across Britain. He has recently researched and published work analysing the application and impact of surveillance technologies on terrorism.
Practitioners invited are Colin Murphy is the Public Reassurance Officer (CCTV) for Birmingham Community Safety Partnership and Deputy Chairman of the Public CCTV Managers Association (PCMA); Gordon McLanaghan is the Emergency Control Centre Manager for Bristol City Council; and Simon Adcock, representing the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).
Delegates are promised a lively debate with the questions posed from the floor relating to the public perception of CCTV, the future of the National CCTV Strategy and the future Freedom Bill.
