A case study of Stevenson College, Edinburgh (SCE) student ID cards.
Based in West Edinburgh, SCE has around 17,000 students. The college originally provided cardboard ID cards but decided to switch to PVC cards, preferring the format’s versatility, professional look and speed of creation.
Payne Security was approached eight years ago and SCE continues to rely on the company today for printers, software, cards and accessories. The college uses a Javelin C30i printer, suitable the product firm says for colour reproduction and lamination, and Payne Security’s IDPro software. Initially, Payne created suitable templates with SCE and trained staff in how to use the software to maintain these. "The IDPro package is particularly easy to work with in terms of creating new cards or updating design templates, ensuring we can quickly adapt to new on-card requirements," says James Marr, Head of Student Services at Stevenson College.
Around 14,000 cards – as well as 8000 lanyards and badge holders – are supplied each year. This relies on prompt delivery, something SCE found recently when new cards were required for enrolment at short notice. "We needed new stock by 9.30am next day or we were facing a real crisis!" says James Marr. "Thankfully, Payne Security confirmed its value by getting the cards to us within that timeframe."
