Badging product firm BIG has launched in the UK an ID badging system that visually changes its appearance.
TIMEbadge changes colour when a visitor’s badge is no longer valid, to combat the risk of unauthorised badge use and the need to collect used badges. If a visitor fails to hand in their badge at the end of their visit, they won’t be able to re-use the badge to regain access without being noticed, the makers report. Each TIMEbadge consists of a coated white adhesive front part and a back part that’s pre-printed with time-release ink. Once the front part is applied to the back part, the TIMEbadge is activated. The rate of TIMEbadge expiration ranges from half a day to one month.
Depending on the expiration period chosen, the TIMEbadge will remain white for the majority of that time before the change begins. For example, a One-Day Expiring TIMEbadge issued in the morning will reveal light pink bars by late afternoon, and darker pink bars within one day, clearly signalling that the badge has expired.
Once an Expiring TIMEbadge is activated, the expiration process cannot be reversed as it is impossible to separate the front part from the back part without visibly damaging the badge. The Expiring TIMEbadge is not affected by light, so the expiration process works indoors and outdoors, day or night.
Different badges are available for heavy or moderate visitor traffic and can be colour-coded to distinguish between different types of visitor or different days of the week. TIMEbadges can be used with any visitor management software.
BIG reports it has already received an order from an investment bank for 200,000 customised Expiring TIMEbadges.
