Combined System

by Msecadm4921

In East Sussex, Wealden District Council sought to move from a paper-based to an IT-based system that could combine time and attendance (T&A) information with building access control.

Wealden District Council employs about 600 people in two main offices, in Hailsham and Crowborough. As in many local authorities, Wealden staff work flexi-time. The council chose the ATRACS package from Wokingham-based Borer Data Systems as their facilities information system. Borer installed the system onto the council?s existing IT network. It allows the two offices to share T&A information across the network, plus combining access control data from both sites to create one security system. An employee needs only one card for staff ID, time and attendance recording, access control and vending machine operation. ATRACS is intended to run on a client?s existing corporate network, LAN or WAN. Integrated in ATRACS is BadgeBuilder, Borer?s ID card package. Cards can be custom-designed for different departments and an individual card-holder?s details including portrait, signature and fingerprints can be stored for reference. Gerry Palmer, Wealden?s Purchasing and Facilities Manager, says: ?Upgrading our system has proved easier than expected and provided us with many real benefits. The staff have easily absorbed the system?s features into their daily routines and, most importantly, we are saving a significant amount of time as a lot of form-filling has become redundant.?
