Some 19 student police officers were spending Monday, March 23 at Weston Favell Shopping Centre in Northampton as part of their training.
PC Tony Cairney, Core Skills Trainer from Northamptonshire Police, said: “This group of students are just completing their first 22 weeks of training and this day will be the first time these officers have responded to incidents on their own in a public setting.
“They will receive details of mock incidents and will be assessed on how they respond to those incidents.
“As well as taking part in these scenarios the officers will be out and about in the shopping centre to talk to members of the public, their first time as officers and in full uniform.
“These kind of training sessions are invaluable for our student officers and we are grateful for the shopping centre’s support in helping us organise such a worthwhile exercise.”
Signs were placed in the shopping centre telling members of the public that the high level of police presence is because of a training exercise and that it is business as usual.
