Crack House Crackdown

by msecadm4921

Avon and Somerset Police have arrested 81 people and closed seven ‘crack houses’ as part of a national operation.

Operation Crackdown was a concerted effort across the force to bring drug dealers to justice and close down premises where illicit drugs are being used, supplied or produced.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is of 33 forces who used a variety of tactics, including undercover operations, to work with the local communities to target known dealers and drug dens.

In the three months of the operation 81 people in the force area have been arrested for supplying class A drugs, over 120grammes of crack, over 790grammes of cocaine and over 360grammes of heroin was seized.

Assets worth nearly £30,000 were also seized along with 12 firearms and 17 replica firearms.

Seven crack house, five in Bristol, one in South Gloucestershire and one in Somerset West have also been closed.

What they say

Insp Dave Thorneywork said: “Avon and Somerset Police always take a tough line against the dealing and using of drugs. The number of people arrested for dealing in class A drugs, the significant amounts of drugs and dangerous weapons seized, all demonstrate to the people who live and work in the force area that we take positive action to deal with issues which we know are a major concern for our communities.

“Although the operation ran only for three months our operations to tackle drug dealers and users run 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

“The message to anyone involved in illegal drugs in Avon and Somerset is that you are not welcome here. Enforcement is a key part of the drugs strategy but it doesn’t work on its own – Community Safety Partnerships, Drug Action Teams and other agencies across Avon and Somerset are working hard with communities and drug users.”
