A northern university has launched a full time, three-year course in Police and Criminal Investigation.
A full-time degree in Police and Criminal Investigation has been launched by the University of Central Lancashire. Course leader Anthony Forde told Professional Security: ?We are training undergraduates for criminal investigative careers not just with the police but also the military, and private institutions. Our course is a blend of academic and practical training. We will be offering modules for the private security industry and will look to negotiate with them on what they want. However we do offer Masters by research and PhDs in the area of crime investigation and crime prevention. What makes us unique is that we offer a true centre for criminal investigation from lab sciences to scene of crime and criminal investigation and crime prevention.? The Preston-based course is based around policing and police practice – the techniques, practices, laws and procedures in policing and in conducting criminal investigations; the other parts are forensic practice and investigation, and criminology. Topics include crime prevention, interview technique, and drugs and crime.
