Crime prevention has a place in an exhibition by Product Design students at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Paul Clark, 22, from Macduff, was prompted to look at crime prevention after his dad’s car lot business in Macduff was broken into just before the start of term, and Paul decided that he wanted to develop something that could help to stop petty crime. His final design is for an outdoor security light that can track a target like a spotlight and follow those lurking outside property at night.
Paul said: "My aim is to discourage people from sticking around to commit crime – they have to remove themselves from the entire area to get out of view of the light. My design uses motion sensors and would work using a live video feed. I have really enjoyed my time here at Gray’s, especially taking on the challenge of studying product design. It allows you to problem solve in your own way and it has been interesting to see how everyone can come up with different solutions for the same task." His work is part of Gray’s School of Art Degree Show 2010 in June.
