The Carlisle retailers against crime group has recruited their 100th premises.
The scheme which was introduced in the mid 1990s to combat retail crime and now includes schools, garages and housing estate retailers as well as a large number of city centre stores. All members are issued with personal radios. The radios are responsible for linking all the member premises to the council CCTV system and the police. The scheme has also helped to locate numerous missing children over the years.
All the member premises share information with regards to who is active in stealing from stores as well as working with similar schemes in Scotland and the North of England.
Sgt Richard Higgin from Carlisle City Centre Policing team said: "The scheme works so well because it is one big partnership all working toward the same goal of reducing retail crime and making Carlisle a better place to live and shop."
