IBM has recently licensed Signum’s VeriData data integrity software. IBM will integrate VeriData into its custom solution to securely manage valuable and vital electronic documents for an unspecified government client. The licensing of VeriData follows the decision of IBM’s client to upgrade and improve their client’s document management and communications systems. As a result, communication of documents across the organisation will be more secure, providing reassurance that electronic documents can be uniquely identified and tracked from original capture through to management and distribution whether via the internet, an intranet or other communications channels. Following a series of trials, the client specified VeriData ID watermarking tools, since each digitally watermarked document carries its own stand-alone security, completely transparently, without altering information value or the file size. The highly-secure VeriData ID ‘tag’ is embedded into the document object data at the point of distribution. This tag extends right through to the printed document, supporting the system’s access control and audit trail functions in both digital and analogue domains. IBM’s implementation used the VeriData ID software development kit for Windows NT from Signum’s range of proven document and content protection solutions. Mark Johnson, Customer Solutions Buyer for IBM UK, says: ?The nature of our client’s business means that it is a prerequisite for the entire document management process to operate in a highly secure environment. Signum’s VeriData ID technology will enable individual documents to be tracked and permanently tagged. Being publicly funded, our client was very cost-conscious and, pleasingly, the extra level of security that VeriData provides doesn’t come at a heavy premium.? Alan Bartlett, Signum’s head of marketing says: ?This new licence furthers our goal of delivering secure digital watermarking software to empower world class organisations to manage their electronic information more effectively, through strategic partners such as IBM. We are excited that VeriData ID will be helping a key government client manage its digital assets and business processes better.?
