Data Protection Training

by Msecadm4921

Distributor of electronic security products Norbain SD has launched a new training course

It’s devised by Ian Fowler – Norbain’s Technical Training Manager – to help installers deal with the Data Protection Act.

Ian Fowler says: "The Information Commissioner has issued a Guidance Note that was intended to clarify when a CCTV system does or does not need to be registered under the Data Protection Act. However, the industry remains unsure and confused, and the Guidance Note itself suggests an incomplete understanding of the nature of modern CCTV systems and the direction in which the CCTV industry is heading."

Entitled The Data Protection Act and Security Monitoring, the one-day course addresses questions that still remain, the distributor says. Considering the Code of Practice and Advice from the Information Commissioner, course delegates will look at the Eight Principles underpinning the Act. Key questions being dealt with include:

w hat defines personal and sensitive data?
who can be the Data Controller?
what does the user want the information for?
is compliance the same as registration?
how long can we hold information?
can I record covertly?

Other subject areas: when a system needs to be registered, issues of camera positions and signage, maintenance, log books and documentation. Analogue and digital recording systems will be covered by the course.

The next chance to attend the DPA01 course is July 7, in Blackpool. Other dates are: September 15 (Reading), October 6 (Warrington), and December 15 (Reading). For more details, or reserve a place on a course, visit the Norbain website. Or contact your local Norbain office.
