Iceland, the UK frozen foods giant, has equipped its fleet of delivery vehicles with the latest version of Encrypta Electronics? electronic seals. The Crypta C2K Remote uses magnetic door sensors to tell if the vehicle door is open or closed. This enables the unit itself to be positioned in the most convenient part of the vehicle rather than having to be by the locking mechanism. Tony Bolton, Fleet Manager at Iceland, says: ?We have been using Encrypta?s seals on our vehicles for nearly 15 years. I am very happy with this new design as it enables us to position the unit midway up shutter door at the rear of the vehicle. This puts the display at a convenient height to be read when in the loading bay for people standing on the ramp. Previously, they had to bend down to read the seal number as the unit had to be by the handle on the bottom of the shutter.? Another advantage of the remote sensor version is that the sealing operation is fully automatic; it detects the door opening and closing. There is no possibility of the door being part closed or the sealing cable not being fitted properly and there are no costs of replacing worn out cables. When sealed, the unit generates a four digit random number that is the seal number for the journey. It can be checked at any time and if the number is unchanged then the load is secure. If it has changed since the load was sealed then unauthorised access has occurred, which can be immediately investigated before the vehicle?s load is touched. Mark Hayward, Encrypta?s Marketing Director, says: ?We are finding that more and more customers are preferring the remote versions of our electronics seals. These offer three advantages. First, the sealing operation is fully automatic so there is no possibility of people forgetting to seal the load. Second, vehicles with side doors can sealed by wiring the sensors in series thus having one seal number for the whole vehicle. And third, the seals can be located anywhere on the vehicle completely independent of the location of the door handle and type of locking mechanism; and sometimes customers want the seals to be covert.?
