Portsmouth Hospitals Trust and developers Carillion were presented with an award by Hampshire Constabulary Chief Constable Alex Marshall, Monday, July 13.
The Association of Chief Police Officers Secured by Design award was presented to the developers and the trust for their efforts in ‘designing out’ crime at the new Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
The Queen Alexandra is the first Secured by Design hospital in Hampshire.
Simon Bottom, Crime Prevention Design Advisor based at Cosham police station said: “This award is the culmination of many months of concerted partnership working by police, the hospital trust and Carillion in an effort to create a safer and more secure environment for staff, patients and visitors.
“It was extremely challenging to incorporate the necessary security measures while accommodating the needs of a very public building and special thanks go to Carillion design team for their commitment to this project.”
Graham Aubrey, Carillion operations director said: “We are delighted to have received this award which is testament to our collaborative partnership with the Portsmouth Hospital Trust and Hampshire police.”
