A portable safety device for lone workers, the e-defender from Argyll Telecom enables firms to comply with the current health and safety legislation. The e-defender GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) handset is configured with a single button press for panic situations. Pressing the assistance button will open a voice connection to Argyll?s 24-hour control room while simultaneously sending the current location of the user to Argyll?s mapping facility. This enables operators to locate the user whilst communicating with his colleagues and if necessary sending immediate assistance. The exact escalation procedure will be agreed in advance. All calls and response procedures are constantly recorded. The services are accessed via a secure internet connection, removing the need for a large investment in IT equipment at base. Argyll?s GPS Solutions combine the use of a GPS mobile phone handsets with integrated Global Positioning Satellite based management facilities. The firm?s e-locator services enables you to view staff or vehicles information – each unit will show its location, velocity and direction of travel. Your units/groups locations can be interrogated via the internet ? in real-time ? to establish current positions. This service empowers you to: request location of remote user handsets; carry out a ?find nearest handset? by inputting postcode or location details; adjust tracking parameter settings on line and over the air. These facilities allow you to become pro-active offering a near real-time service, the firm argues, for example: search for personnel/vehicle by postcode/location; compare vehicle/worker location with predetermined locations such as addresses or depots ? gives a real world position; view time, velocity and direction of travel for fleet management; provide for more efficient job allocation. Location data is transmitted directly to Argyll?s server and presented on zoomable Ordnance Survey mapping. Access to current location data is enabled via the internet with secure password encryption methods and viewed using standard internet browsers providing near real-time updates to your organisation. The e-manager allows you to keep control and manage your staff or vehicles by providing historical details. The unit operator sends location updates periodically, which enables you to view historical location and status information. You can then interrogate this information via: location, status, date, user or group. The period of location transmissions can be tailored for specific applications. This may be particularly useful for: fleet vehicle or plant equipment management applications ; engineers confirming arrival at a remote site; a logistics company confirming delivery at a location.
