Digital Growth Rapid

by Msecadm4921

Growth in the UK digital CCTV recorder market is rapid, according to the latest market research report from MSI Marketing Research for Industry.

The MSI Marketing Research for Industry analyses the growth of the UK market for Digital CCTV Recorders between 1997 and 2001, with forecasts to 2006 of this rapidly growing market. The report includes: market size and trends, 1997 – 2001; market segmentation; factors affecting demand; market forecasts, 2002 – 2006; critical success factors; industry structure; and profiles of 16 of the leading manufacturers. The researchers say much of the demand for digital CCTV recorders is from end users seeking a replacement for their analogue recorders. The ease with which digital recorders can be incorporated into existing CCTV systems is an important factor in the sector?s growth. According to trade sources, technological developments will continue to influence demand for digital recorders. Indeed, as the capacity of hard disk drives increases, compression techniques improve and recording a month?s events using high frame rates becomes possible, the use of ?cascaded? video cassette recorders and a multitude of worn analogue tapes will be viewed by many as archaic. However, the researchers caution that problems with use of recorded digital CCTV images as evidence in legal proceedings remain and may serve to constrain demand in the short term. Manufacturers need to assure end users that recorded images cannot be altered without alteration being detected. End users may need training to ensure they can present a clear audit trail showing how the originally recorded image went to disc, CD-ROM or DVD and presented to a court. MSI believe that whilst the wide range of compression techniques available is good for the industry, encouraging rapid product development, it presents a problem when images are to be viewed on other machines in courts. This can be overcome by copying the images onto discs, CD-ROMs or DVDs with a copy of the relevant compression software and then viewing the images on a conventional PC, the researchers say. Professional Security is reviewing this report further next issue. The report is available from: MSI Marketing Research for Industry, Viscount House, River Lane, Saltney, Chester CH4 8RH.
