The London Borough of Bromley has taken its first steps in digital recording for its newly installed cameras in the Crystal Palace, Penge and Anerleys area of the borough, courtesy of the Home Office?s round one Crime Reduction/CCTV Programme. Bromley commissioned consultant JMT Systems to compare available digital recording systems, particularly in the light of advice from the Police Scientific Branch. JMT Systems recommended a system based upon the PI Vision 2nd Eyes Enterprise system as offering image quality using the jpeg compression standard. This system supported by a RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) level 5 image storage system, will allow retrieval of recorded information up to a minimum of 31 days old. John Broyden, Consultancy Manager for LB Bromley said: ?I am confident that the 2nd Eyes system will prove successful in improving facilities for the monitoring operatives and the local police here in Bromley, and am hopeful that we will be able to use the system?s inherent scalability to expand the system to cover other areas of the borough?s CCTV network.?
