Gemplus the smart card provider is using Door Detective from Integrated Design Ltd to protect key doors on its high security sites. Gemplus manufactures smart, magstripe and memory cards and associated hardware, operating out of 66 facilities in 37 countries. Gemplus requires a high level of security on key access points and cannot risk unauthorised people gaining access through access controlled doors by following authorised users through once the door is open (tailgating). Door Detective creates an infrared field across the door opening to monitor the passage of every individual entering and leaving through that door. It is being used in secure areas where we have to ensure only authorised staff has access, and the access control system by itself may not have been enough. For staff there is no difference, but now Gemplus security personnel are alerted each time someone tries to tailgate through a key area.?

The system works in conjunction with the existing access control system to ensure only one person gains access through the secured door for each valid card transaction. In the event of someone tailgating or an unauthorised entry attempt, the Door Detective provides local and remote alarm indications to alert the individual concerned as well as security personnel. Additionally Door Detective triggers a camera to monitor the illegal transactions and ensure events are recorded for later analysis.
