The engineering and policy sides of protecting buildings and occupiers from the risk of terrorism will be aired at a September 18 afternoon seminar in Edinburgh.
Chairing the TPS Consult event will be Yong Lu, Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment at Edinburgh University. Mark Whyte, Director Security Consulting and Explosion Effects at Croydon-based TPS told Professional Security the day is aimed at corporate security personnel, architects, developers and those with an interest in the protection of the built environment. Covered will be: the effects of blast on structures, facades and glazing; counter terrorism measures at the design stage; retrospective options; and ehicle mitigation measures. An article by Mark Whyte on bollards and barriers featured last issue. The national security review by the Government minister Lord West increases the emphasis placed on protective security measures to protect crowded places, the built environment, transport and critical national infrastructure. A Lothian and Borders Police Counter Terrorism and Security Advisor is invited to speak too. A drinks reception will follow at 5pm.
