Explosive Trace

by Msecadm4921

Scanna launch of XPAK, offering portable explosives trace detection. Using an explosives sample collector and verification electronics, XPAK provides a method of screening vehicles, parcels, bags, containers and people for trace amounts of explosives.

Developed with the US DOD, XPAK is designed to detect explosive trace contamination on both humans and objects. It tests for a range of explosives, including TNT, RDX, PETN as well as plastic explosives with rapid results.

The system is "instantly on" with no warm up time or calibration required. Sampling is made via a "lint roller" which is then inserted into the XPAK screener. After application of a special fluorescent ink, the sample is placed under UV light for fluorescence quenching. Any traces of explosives are indicated and the sample paper can then be removed and forensically sealed for evidence purposes. The device is then ready for resampling.

More importantly, because of the intuitive detection method involved, the makers say that their XPAK has none of the false positives on ordinary household chemicals that continue to be a problem with traditional explosives detection technology. In addition and unlike traditional IMS detectors, there is no heating of the explosive required, so that forensic evidence is preserved and no "bakeout" of the electronics device following a positive detection is needed.

Designed with solid state components with no sensitive electronics XPAK is suitable the firm adds for police and military search teams, border patrols, prisons, security checkpoints and canine support teams.

The XPAK will further complement Scanna’s range of portable search and detection equipment which includes the EL100 disposable explosive detection kits, Gatescan-P portable walkthrough metal detector and the Scanwedge manportable x-ray inspection system for suspicious bag and package checks.
